THE ARTIST by The Artist
Since childhood I always loved to draw and paint and came back to it later on in life. My painting style has altered somewhat since going to St. Thomas’s BIFE, Fine Art College for two years. Where I used to be quite figurative, I appear to have gone a bit more abstract now. I am not sure if this is a good thing but it’s always good to experiment with different ideas. I tend to paint straight onto canvas instead of planning and drawing out the image first. This might have upset some of my tutors in college!
I have always enjoyed creating not quite flattering images of people. I like to capture the essence and character of a person. I would say that painting is a passion of mine and I love the feeling of getting lost in the works. Nothing else matters when I am engrossed in creating a piece of work.
My Work…
Pat by Dei Hackett-Mooney(2015)
This is a recent work – losing some of the features. Gouache on paper.
Untitled by Dei Hackett-Mooney (2015)
This is great fun to do as I am experimenting with oil and putting white spirit on the wet paint and letting it drip and see what happens. None of my paintings are precious and I love the experimentational side to creating an image.
More paint can always be added or even removed. Oil on board – ongoing process,.
Picasso by Dei Hackett-Mooney (2015)
Mono-print on black paper. Again losing the features but the form of a head is still there.
My Inspirations…
Magdalena Abakanowicz
A polish sculptor and fibre artist, but it is her drawings that fascinate me.
Louis le Brocquy
Once again, soft distortion.
Francis Bacon
Distortion, movement and I love the colour tones.
