It won’t affect the oul’ double-deckers plodding through Greystones, but Bus Éireann have called a strike from midnight tonight.
With SIPTU transport sector organiser Willie Noone stating that the “time for talking was over”, the general secretary of the National Bus and Rail Union, Dermot Leary, added Thursday afternoon that the strike could not be averted.
With unions representing 26,000 staff responding to management’s introduction of nearly 50 efficiency measures and work practice changes, the main concern at today’s meeting was the timing of the action.
Said Noone, “We have been under pressure for the last number of hours as to why we are not on the picket line already.”
A SIPTU spokesman also said that school buses were not affected by the all-out strike, but they could be brought into the dispute “very, very quicky”.
