It seems like only yesterday that Templecarrig were lifting the Godfrey Cup, and now another local school has gone and won a major title.
This afternoon, under a beautiful sun, and clearly with the wind of loudly cheering parents at their backs, Delgany National School’s young hockey team triumphed against St Gerard’s to win the Leinster School League Cup.
A big shout-out has to go to coaches Craig Aston and the mighty Aron from Southside Sports, who simply brought out the best in these young players.
Team captain Meghan Hudson Malone was a worthy leader of a great team too, a great team that comprised of Olivia Scott, Kirsty Byrne, Lauren Gray, Heidi Zeig, Olivia Patterson Brown, Isabelle Stapleton, Rebecca Stewart, Alexandra MacGowan, Emily Zeig, Edie Gallagher and Jocelyn Elliot.
The winning goal was scored by Isabelle, who is now allowed to strut around Delgany with her head held particularly high for at least one whole week.
Congratulations to all the players, and the teachers, coaches and parents who cheered them on. And a special thanks to proud mum Victoria Hudson, who provided these shots and the sweet video clip below of that Leinster Cup being raised by one very happy young team…
