Press Release from Mayor Kathleen Kelleher
I would like to express my sincere sympathy to the
family of Eamon de Buitlear RIP.
Eamon was very involved with the environment, with
conservation and with Irish music and culture. I am very
proud that Fianna Fail nominated him to the Senate in
1987.
For me personally, Eamon was an inspiration in learning the
Irish language. His early television programmes, Amach Faoin Speir and
Amuigh Faoin Aer, were models of the best way to introduce
the use of the Irish language to a wide audience.
The programmes were bi lingual. English was alternated with
Irish in an easy and comfortable manner. This combination of
Irish and English inspired me to learn Irish and to learn more
about Ireland’s traditional music and culture. I am sorry this method
is not used more. It would be a good approach even today.
Eamon’s influence will be long lasting in a real and positive way.
