Ferris welcomes heritage funding for vulnerable structures in Ashford & Carnew
Press Release from Anne Ferris TD
Wicklow TD Anne Ferris has welcomed the funding made available to protect vulnerable structures in Ashford and Carnew.
Deputy Ferris said: “The funding being made available from the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, is part of a total allocation of over €700,000 for vulnerable structures around the country.
“Two projects in County Wicklow are to benefit from this funding. Aghowle Cottage in Ashford is to receive €7,000 while Carnew Castle is also to receive €7,000.
“This is very welcome as I believe that our built heritage should be supported as much as possible. Although we are in difficult economic times, the funding that goes to support these national assets will have multiple economic, cultural and aesthetic benefits.
“Indeed, our built heritage is certainly a significant factor in attracting visitors to Ireland and we should be doing everything we can to support tourism.”
