Press Release from Anne Ferris TD
Wicklow TD Anne Ferris has welcomed the National Transport Authority’s new National Journey Planner, which has gone live on www.TransportforIreland.ie .
Deputy Ferris said: "The service helps people plan personal journeys, door-to-door, anywhere in Ireland, using public transport or walking. As well as the website, there is also an App available for Android mobile phones and I understand there is an iPhone App in the pipeline. This new National Journey Planner is unlike anything seen in Ireland before in terms of using digital technology to support people using public transport.
"The Journey Planner covers all 26 counties and includes stops from the Republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland. As well as that it covers different transport operators and types of transport – bus, rail, tram, taxis and ferries are all included in both the public and private sectors.
“The scope of the Planner is truly huge, with 9,600 bus stops across Ireland included, 750 different routes, 152 train stations, and route and timetable information from 120 different transport providers. It gives fully mapped-out route information, printable timetables and details of overall journey times.
"I understand that there will be capabilities for real time passenger information, fare information and a cycle planner coming soon. I would ask public transport users across Wicklow to try the Journey Planner out and give feedback, which will help to improve what is already a great service. There is a special feedback channel on www.TransportforIreland.ie for this purpose.
"Services like this are essential in helping people to get the most out of public transport. I am delighted to see it launched and I hope it becomes a real success. The fact that there are Apps coming on stream as well as well as the website, makes this service truly powerful, as people move towards tablets and rely on smartphones for information on the move."
