t’s taken some time, and a heck of a lot of heckering, but, finally, the Farrelly brothers have opened up their Cabana’s archives to GG once again.
Well, when we say archives, it’s just a little plastic folder of old, badly-taken snaps from when everyone’s favourite meat merchants were barmen down at Greystones’ first-ever – and, perhaps, finest-ever – nightclub.
Just how badly taken these shots are would be excusable if the man behind the camera – one Anthony Ignatius Horatio Elvis Farrelly – had been in some way hammered. Given that he and Padraig were working behind the bar at the time, sadly, that is not the case.
Anthony is just a really shit photographer.
That’s Troy Gillet up on the right there. To the left is a young Delgany woman currently married with kids and who, reckons Anthony, would rather not be named.
Still, it’s great to have any kind of record of these wild times in sunny Greystones, where heroically drunk and blissfully naive Greystones teenagers attempted to act cool and sophisticated for a night.Â
Despite the shoulder pads. And the stone-washed denim.
Oh, and forgive the really crumpled photo – the lady featured obviously changed her mind about that fella. And the final shot is actually two very cheery bar staff at The Burnaby, circa 1982.
As always, if you have any photographs buried away of your own teenage rampage, hey, email in right about here. We’re particularly keen to put Lautrex and Club Life on the map…
