hey’re a difficult bird to spot, given that these winter visitors not only make it to the north and east of Ireland, but they’re also pretty darn private.
So, it takes someone with the patience of, well, Brian Keeley to capture these beauties on camera.
Feeding almost exclusively on berries, the waxwing – or Bombycilla Garrulus, if you’re into that whole Latin thing – heads to Ireland for our bountiful buffets, but heads back home to Finland and eastwards, across Siberia, when it comes to any bedroom shenanigans.
Generally seen in southern Scandanavia, it’s rare to spot these birds in our green and, right now, freckin’ freezin’ land.
Nonetheless, on one of his many excursions up around Druids Glen, both on Thursday and Friday, Brian Keeley spotted these beauties.
