Beyond its breathtaking natural beauty, New Zealand has given the world many fine things.
Perfect popsters Crowded House, po-faced filmmaker Jane Campion, sensitive goth Lorde, solid-as-a-rock actor Sam Neill, mock rockers Flight Of The Conchords, those endless Lord Of The Rings films, the teutonic Xena: Warrior Princess, those endless Hobbit films, the saccharine Richard Curtis, the, eh, grumpy Russell Crowe…
Okay, so, not everything New Zealand has thrown our way has stuck to the wall, but, clearly, that crystal clear air, those clean rivers and the seemingly endless supply of majestic mountain ranges do provide the perfect petri dish in which to breed the perfect human specimen.
A specimen that would make Hitler swoon. A specimen that could make an Orc take up poetry. Or maybe even inspire Russell Crowe not to be such a complete and utter twat.
A specimen like Blake Hill.
Jaysus, this fecker makes me sick. Built like a brick shithouse that’s been crafted by Michelangelo, Blake also packs the sort of dashing, ready smile that could knock a hussy off her high-heels at 20 feet. Worst of all, the guy is really, really friendly. And relaxed.

Yep, Blake Hill has the look. And the attitude. And, it would appear, the dancing feet, he and partner Debbie ‘Flash’ Fisher having danced rings around the competition at last week’s Strictly From The Movies extravaganza – when they took on Flashdance: What A Feeling and feckin’ owned it.
In truth, if Blake had simply walked up on stage and proceeded to pick up any loose papers on the floor, he would have gotten the full ten points from judges Denise McCormack and Sinead Lynch. And Maclean Burke too, most likely, given that he’s an actor, and they’re pretty much up for anything, with anyone, at anytime.
Heck, with just one glance, Blake could have had Shane Byrne thinking about becoming a totally different kind of hooker for the night.
So, fair play, young Blake. You came, you saw the reaction, and even though you could have conquered the whole town and beyond, you instead got on with the important stuff – such as having fun, and making friends. And you made plenty.
When Blake says it’s the friends that he’s made here, and the fun they’ve had together, that will remain with him for life, you believe him. And when he signs off his My Greystones answers with a simple ‘thank you to all of you who have made my time here so special’, you know the guy means it.
Blake Hill has a great big heart. And he isn’t afraid to use it. Being the caring, cordial Kiwi dancing king that he is.

More My Greystones right about here.
