The main thing about Irish Water that you have to remember is, if these guys say they’re going to fix a leak in the road, they’re going to fix it.
You don’t have to keep ringing up and reminding them every two months.
A leak on Vevay Road, which also sprang into action over two months ago, has recently been fixed by Irish Water – but that was, says Cathaoirleach of Bray District Council Steven Matthews, “after four phone calls and numerous back and forth emails”.
For the Blacklion Waterfall, local resident Ken Loftus got on to Wicklow County Council’s environment section, but was promptly informed, “sorry, nothing to do with us”. Getting on to Irish Water next, Ken was told that the leak would be logged. But not, it would seem, actually fixed.
It’s a problem that was addressed recently by local councillor Nicola Lawless, but even political pressure doesn’t seem to hold much water with, ironically enough, Irish Water.
