t was always going to take something close to a miracle to save Carraig Eden…
Home to many a weary traveller, this halfway house run by the Christian organisation Saol Nua helped a huge amount of people trying to get to here from there.
And now that 80 years of good work is coming to an end, it seems, after the residents were told by Carraig Eden’s owners, The Assemblies Of God Ireland, that they’re now looking to other buyers – having initially given the current occupants six months to come up with €1.7m to buy it themselves.
That was last Easter, and the deadline has long since passed, as have all the possible collaborations that might have saved Carraig Eden as it currently stands. And what it currently stands for.
We caught up earlier tonight with Darragh Paige, long-time director and one of the founders of The Carraig Eden Foundation, formed last year in the hope of spearheading the fundraising campaign and maintaining Sual Nua‘s work there.
That hope has now faded, and it seems as though it’s only a matter of time before Carraig Eden will have a new owner…
