atest press release from Minister Stephen Donnelly, issued on Saturday, June 5th 2021…
Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has praised the work being done by staff at the Shoreline vaccine centre.
The Minister received his first dose of the vaccine at the Greystones centre earlier today.
Afterwards, he thanked the staff for their hard work and put out a call for more volunteers to help with the vaccine rollout at the centre.
Minister Donnelly said: “I’m really excited to have got my first vaccine dose but I also wanted to say thank you to everyone involved. We’ve got clinicians from all over, HSE staff, wonderful volunteers, as well as the Irish Red Cross there along with the people running the centre coming together for what is a real community effort which is fantastic to see.
“They are looking for more volunteers so if you would like to get involved contact Volunteer Wicklow and they will sign you up for some shifts.”
The Minister added: “Despite the fact it has been a bumpy ride when it comes to the supply of the vaccine the teams working not just in Shoreline but at all of our centres across the country have still managed to deliver.
“We are making great progress with people in their early 40s now getting their first dose. The other change coming is a reduction in the length of the interval between doses of the Astra Zeneca vaccine which will benefit in excess of 400,000 people who are waiting on a second dose and who will now get the protection of being fully vaccinated earlier.
“This will be phased in – the coming fortnight will see those who are due their vaccine as part of a 12 week schedule, receive their second dose of vaccine. We will then implement a graduated reduction so the interval will reduce to 11, 10, 9 and then 8 weeks.
“Finally, I hope everyone has a fantastic Bank Holiday and please stay safe.”
