HE ARTIST by The Artist – Kerensa D’Arcy Barr: Painter
I was always into crayons and paints, so by the time I reached something close to adulthood, I had a nice collection, ready to use.
As I was living in Kenya when I first starting painting, nature has always played a huge role in what I create.
I’m pretty much self-taught with a few workshops here and there. I have been consistent with life drawing too, since around ’96, when I used to give a donation to a lady in Bali who didn’t mind getting naked for a small group of women. Ever since then, I’ve always loved nudes and trees, and find them not all that dissimilar.
It’s good to blur the lines sometimes…
The Octagon by Kerensa D’Arcy Barr The Octagon in the Glen of the Downs is one of my favourite places to walk my dogs – which may explain why I return to it again and again. I have also painted the Octagon in water colour, which is hanging in someone else’s house now.
The Steam Tunnel by Kerensa D’Arcy Barr The Steam Tunnel is the boreen to Mathar Mor Beach, another place of beauty – it’s a water colour too.
Guided by Kerensa D’Arcy Barr The latest one is more surreal – which is why I called it Guided. I don’t have a plan when I begin a painting. I just let it become…
Swans Reflecting Elephants by Salvador Dali (1937) Salvador Dali – love his controversial style with hidden secrets.
What The Water Gave Me by Frida Kahlo (1938) Frida Kahlo, it’s herself as a woman I love, painting from her grief and agony. She painted her truth…
Pink Sweet Peas by Georgia O’Keefe (1926) Georgia O’Keefe – I love how delicate and sexy her work is, and fresh.
You can catch Kerensa D’Arcy’s New Beginnings at Distrikt By Mia in Wicklow Town from August 19th to 27th 2021.
