Yep, it’s that time of year where you’re feeling fit, and nature is calling. Even if it is snowing. In June.
If you’re feeling adventurous though, the annual Lugnaquilla challenge is always there, ready and waiting. The highest mountain in Ireland, outside of Kerry, this local colossus is 925 metres above sea level, and is rightly regarded as one of the best walks in the Wicklow Mountains.
On a clear day, you can for miles and miles across stunning Wicklow countryside. If it’s snowing, you can just about see your companion, giving you the evil eye for suggesting you walk up a dirty big mountain in a country notorious for its washing machine weather.
Still, if you go with a guide, you might just have a chance of surviving. There are a series of fully guided walks being organised this summer by Footfalls Walking Holidays, on the third Sunday of each month from now until September. That’s June 21st, July 19th, August 16th and September 20th, date fans.
There will be two guides for every 16 people, and you can ring Wicklow Tourism on 0404 20070 or click on the pic above for further details.
