Greystones Rocks 2018 Has Its WinnersJanuary 3, 2019
Young Claire McGirr – formerly of this parish – has been in touch about a showcase of international short films that she has executive produced.
And the good news is, after sell-out premieres in New York and LA, this globe-trotting showcase, Dear Mr President, is coming to big screen near you.
Here’s Claire with the weather…
Each year Motionpoems – an American non-profit outfit – pairs filmmakers and poets to make creative content under a different social theme. Typically the films are made by American-based directors – however, when I was brought on as EP for the 8th season, I wanted the filmmakers to be international. There are two directors based in Dublin who took part, Tom Speers and Kate Dolan. Since the NY & LA premieres, Tom was signed by SMUGGLER, which is one of the leading commercial production houses in the United States, and Kate has been signed with an agent in LA for feature film directing.
Pairing filmmakers & poets to make creative content, the 12 short films tackle racism, LGBTQIA+ rights, immigration, women’s rights, gun control, educational & social welfare, judicial system reform, climate change, and news/media/social platforms. All 12 short films have had huge success abroad and home.
Happening on Thurday, Jan 3rd, at The Sugar Club in the big city, tickets are €13, and can be purchased right about here.
