It’s a measure of just how swiftly the nights are coming in now that whilst snapping the beautiful people on The Whale’s red carpet tonight, the light went from daylight to darkness in less than half-an-hour.
All those beautiful people were here to see Lisa Lambe and her Hothouse Flowers duo Peter O’Toole and Fiachna Ó Braonáin, and they were about to get the full paparazzi treatment.
World-famous artists, that red carpet, a sparkling, state-of-the-art theatre, and now, flashing bulbs popping in their faces.
We hadn’t expected the need, but, the lovely Nikki from The Whale was generous enough to offer herself up as guinea pig, to see just how the flash effect would work.
Man, the girl’s a natural. Should have been a model. For arthritis pills.
Inside, Lisa, Peter and Fiachna took to the stage, starting the show with a recent composition put together during Ms Lambe’s year as Artist In Residence at Kilruddery. It was a gentle kiss on the cheek, but the power of the old friend’s instinctive guitar interplay and that voice just about sparked a standing ovation.
After the first song.
After Al’s kick of comedy and Phelim’s triumphant one-man drama, The Whale’s first headline music act proved that here is a venue for all art forms, and for all Greystonians. And, as with Al and Phelim, tonight was a sell-out long before the night came around – so you might want to check out what’s coming up next at The Whale, so you don’t get left out in the cold.
With GG. And our dodgy flash.
