ith Clara having celebrated her sixth birthday on July 29th, one of her finest gifts comes in the form of an annual golf classic in her name.
Started by her grandfather, Johnny Groome, after Clara’s very young life was saved by Crumlin Children’s Hospital, this annual shindig is for one very worthy cause.
And it always makes for one very fine day out.
With 2020’s gathering having been put on hold due to the lockdowns, this year, the gang were back out in force down at the Arklow Golf Club on Friday. And the Groome family had a few more helping hands this time out…
As the adults tried their best to get that little white ball into a hole or two without inadvertently winning a ploughing championship, the kids – Sean Kelly, Emily, the twins Anna and Lucy, and baby Caoimhe – did their bit, drawing the raffle tickets.
Having so far raised over €40,000 for the cardiac unit at Crumlin, this year just might prove to be the biggest fundraiser yet.
Those especially deserving of a pat on the back include, of course, Johnny and Liz, plus Jonathan, Philip and Jennifer Kelly, Lloyd and Emma Brennan, May Smullen and Catherine McDonald.
Big shout-out too to the mighty Gerry Kelly for capturing all the fun of the day…
