Reports were initially sketchy last night, but now confirmed – a body was found by emergency and rescue services on Kilcoole beach.
After coast guards, gardai and an ambulance were spotted rushing down Sea Road yesterday evening, as a helicopter scanned the coast, speculation on social media quickly caught fire.
And now, it would appear, the reason behind the flashing lights is what many had feared. Gardaí have confirmed to us this morning that a body was indeed found on the beach yesterday, somewhere between Kilcoole and Newcastle.
It was at 6.30pm on Monday that a 60-year-old man was discovered near the shore, and was quickly taken to nearby Newcastle Airfield, where he pronounced dead. The body was then taken to Loughlinstown Morgue. Gardaí have said the man’s death is ‘not suspicious’.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the deceased’s family.
