Bray Head After The Fire

It is, of course, heartbreaking to see, and maybe even a pain in the arse, when they’re man-made…

The devastation left behind after a series of gorse fires on Bray Head have stripped away so much plant life – and with it, so much wildlife. 

Given that the two recent fires raged for hours and hours, it was inevitable that the aftermath would be

somewhat bare. And charred.

Local artist Brenda Malley – who captured some beautiful watercolour moments around Greystones last June – was up on the burnt-out landscape today, taking not only a series of striking shots but also grabbing her paintbrush to bring us two wonderful Bray Head After The Fire paintings.

It’s a resilient stretch of land, having bounced back many times from such stupidity before.

Until Bray Head is back to full health and full bloom, there’s an eerie kind of beauty to be found here, and a reminder of just how vulnerable this old girl is…
