Bray To Get €15m Sports Village?

Pencilled in for a 20-acre plot near Fassaroe, plans for a €15m sports campus in Bray would appear to be well underway.

A new 80-page report, entitled Bray Sports Village, reveals that the proposed campus was the result of a survey looking at the needs of 22 local sports organisation.

Taking part in the survey were 1,700 soccer players, 880 GAA players and 670 hockey players, and the hope is that the new facility will be able to house the many smaller clubs without facilities or pitches of their own.

With Wicklow County Council now set to conduct a feasibility study, the three options outlined by the consultants Repucon in their 80-page report are Athletics Model, Indoor & Multi Pitch Model and All Weather Model.

The options presented would mean 4G pitches accommodating two full-size soccer and one full-size GAA pitch; a grass pitch accommodating two full-size soccer or one full-size GAA pitch; a 2G hockey pitch; a four-court sports hall; changing rooms; a jogging and cycling route; storage for sports equipment, and a skatepark area.

We’ll keep you posted…

That is wonderful news for Bray and for sports clubs to have proper facilities and a place to call home. One observation springs to mind. Can these clubs who have different age groups (include under 18s and over 18s) be based on the same campus? Would the clubs be only for 18s and under or over 18s only. The reason why I ask is apparently students who attend secondary school level cant be on the same site to students who attend a third level!!!
