Sending shockwaves through the town, a violent and seemingly unprovoked attack on a young boy happened in Greystones on Sunday night.
The teenage boy was walking home when, it’s claimed, he was jumped by a gang who beat him unconscious.
It was the boy’s mother, Ashleen Darby, who first posted on social media about the horrific incident, at 2am on Sunday.
Her post read…
My gorgeous gentleman child Cillian was beaten unconscious tonight on Bellevue rd by what appears to be a random act of violence. He is now in hospital with head injury and we are all devastated. A navy Ford Focus 06.
One local commentator posting on Greystones Open Forum connected the attack to an apparent recent phenomenon, whereby gangs ‘pick on younger kids and beat [them] til they’re unconscious whilst filming‘.
We’ve contacted the Garda press office, and they replied, ‘A man (17 yrs) was struck by a person unknown to him. The injured party did not require hospital treatment and the matter is under investigation‘.
Cillian was actually released from hospital today, having been there since Sunday. Which sounds like hospital treatment to us.
