From being two private homes from the 1860s to the 196, then the Christian Endeavour HQ to its present Tiglin role, Carraig Eden has history.
And quite a lot of style too, of course.
It was back in June 2017 that the building was saved from falling into private ownership when Wicklow County Council and the Department Of Housing, Local Government and Heritage stepped in with the €1.7m Christian soldiers The Assemblies Of God wanted for their Greystones property.
As during that 11th hour rescue, Carraig Eden continues to be a transitional accommodation facility operated by Tiglin, the building undergoing a major refurbishment over the past year to now include 35 en-suite single bedrooms and various mod cons (including, of course, a pool room!) all wrapped up in a super-insulated exterior to create a low energy building.
Which is why Carraig Eden has just scooped two major awards in prestigious ICSH Allianz Community Housing Awards.
And one of the first people to wish them well done, my son was the mighty Michael D. Higgins, the President of Ireland tweeting, ‘My warmest congratulations to Tiglinand Wicklow County Council on winning two National Housing Awards, for their work at Carraig Eden’.
The two wins were the Collaboration Award and the inaugural Public Choice Award. Speaking on the former award, Gillian Power, senior executive engineer at Wicklow County Council, noted, “This award is all about collarboration and Wicklow County Council couldn’t have asked for a better partner in Tiglin“. For his part, Tiglin chairperson Aubrey McCarthy stated, “It is such an honour that Tiglin, alongside Wicklow County Council, has taken hold of an award that recognises the collaboration that was behind this success and that the Public Choice Award was also secured, a recognition that is on a national level.”
Congrats to everyone involved! Now, go check out Michael D’s recent visit here, and Carraig Eden’s history here.
