Latest press release from Cllr Jennifer Whitmore, issued on Thursday, July 19th…
Social Democrats Cllr. Jennifer Whitmore has urged beachgoers to be vigilant after her children found a syringe on Greystones South Beach today.
Whitmore said “I was really shocked and upset today when my children came across a used syringe near the Men’s on South Beach Greystones this afternoon. My three-old daughter was playing right beside it and my other three children saw it beside her. Luckily no-one had touched it but it could have been much more serious. There was no cap on it and it was difficult to see on the sand. We were in one of the sheltered rock areas near the Men’s and because it is secluded, it’s probably a place where drug taking is more likely to happen.”
“I immediately rang the Gardai and I dropped it down to them for safe disposal. I also spoke to the Council and they told me that would come and check if there was anymore around. Unfortunately, the reality is that there is no absolute way to ensure that there are none lying around. So, I wanted to bring this to peoples attention so they know to keep an eye out.
Whitmore concluded, “It seems that there has been an increase in syringes being found so it’s really important that people are aware it can happen.”
