iven that the sun was shining bright for a few hours this afternoon – the sleet was yet to arrive – we took the opportunity to hook up with our favourite local historian Shay Clear once again…
Having covered the Bellevue estate back in December, we reckoned it only fitting that we take a look around what used to be its main gates.
One of five entrances to the 300-acre La Touche family spread, the gates today bring you to the Delgany Golf Club. With proud lioness statues either side, as well as what Shay tells us were lodges that homed such families as the Byrnes and the McLaughlins, there was plenty to explore here.
Oh, and despite the fact that Shay thought we might incriminate ourselves, we even addressed the lucrative stash hidden along the driveway of the golf club. Only trouble is, not even Google seems to recognise this heist, so, we’ll hopefully be able to get the true details of that particular buried treasure from the 1980s (or was it the 1970s?) in a future post.
