atest press release from Cllr Derek Mitchell, issued on Tuesday, September 5th 2023…
There are many people in Greystones interested in creative arts and that needs to be fostered in the rapidly growing community.
In March, three well-known artists, Mary Kelly, David Whittredge and Melissa O’Faherty, proposed a multifunctional space for artistic expression such as workshops, education, an exhibition and gallery facility, creative programming and engagement with the community.
This would provide a valuable resource for artists and the general public for many arts and crafts disciplines.
And on Monday, September 4th, a meeting was held in The Burnaby, where over 40 local people began discussions about how to make this art centre a reality.
“I would like to see this happen and I think it would fit in well on the hotel site,” says Councillor Derek Mitchell. “It could potentially provide a working space that directly develops a cultural tradition and fits in with the hotel.”
Greystones Councillors supported this motion at a March meeting and asked the management to try to include this in proposals for the hotel site. Those interested in getting involved should email Michelle Owens here.
