Dog Show For Will’s Playground

he good people of Newcastle have been pulling out quite a few of the stops in recent weeks, as they rally together to honour the memory of young Will Leeson.

By building a playground in the lad’s name.

Following the recent Colour Run comes a dog show this Sunday, October 1st, at the Newcastle Parish Hall.

Alongside all the traditional categories – Best Rescue, Puppy Class, Golden Oldies, Fancy Dress, Musical Sits, Pedigree Dog Class and Best In Show – there will be prizes for the tallest and the smallest pooches, a competition to match breed names to the dogs in the pictures, an obedience class plus a raffle to win a one-hour dog training sessions with Dara Robinson, a family ticket (2 adults, 2 kids) to Christmas Island in Rathdrum, and doggie hampers galore.

More importantly, there will be treats, for humans, including a mini hot dog stand.

In regard to the big day itself, the organisers say, “We hope to build something as an enduring legacy in memory of Will Leeson. A playground at St Francis School where he enjoyed his time with his friends and is something we know he would have loved. A space where children can laugh and play together the way they should.

“Will was a happy playful child always looking for the entertainment value in every situation and he was never happier than when surrounded by his school friends, clowning around and building a place of collective imagination. His friends and the succeeding children at the school will have a place to exercise, play together and enjoy.”

Following the Blessing Of The Animals at 12pm in the neighbouring Newcastle Church, the Dog Show will kick off at 1.30pm, with the price per class just €5.
