new estate planning applications daily.
To the point that it’s almost cruel that Disney decided to shoot a movie entitled Disenchanted there.
Back in September 2021, we spoke with Save Enniskerry Village’s Lorna Kelly about the latest planning assault on the town, a
Strategic Housing Development for 165 new houses on Cookstown Road, and that one was swiftly followed by applications for 219 units at Parknasilloge and 40 units at Kilgarron Hill. To name but two.
As Capami Limited now apply for 31 residential units alongside some community carrots such as an employment hub and a childcare facility, it made us realise that we had actually lost track of all the planning shenanigans at Enniskerry.

So, fresh back from her summer holidays, we asked another SEV trooper Penny Colley for the village’s latest state of play…
Summer – a time for relaxation and holidays.
For spending more time with the family and as little time as possible in the office and answering emails.
Only not for the villagers of Enniskerry, who need to stay alert daily for exactly these time periods, when the developers and planners seem to swoop, hoping no one spots signs erected on greenfield sites or hears the plop of a letter on the mat from the authorities with news of appeals and pending applications.
It’s no surprise to these locals who remain vigilant from the onslaught of the developers that as another summer passes the activities of the developers and planners seem to increase.
Back in February, we campaigned against a large Strategic Housing Development at Parknasillogue that was in danger of materially impacting Knocksink Woods – a special area of conservation. This application is still under review by An Bord Pleanala, but that doesn’t stop the developer having another crack of the whip.

They have submitted 2 smaller applications on the same site, totalling approx 130 units. A distinct reduction, but still with the potential to negatively impact the protected nature reserve.
Additionally the site at Cookstown Road that Cairn Homes plan to develop into an estate of 160 units has had their smaller application for circa. 80 units approved by Wicklow County Council this month. The larger application is going through a Judicial Review at present that could take more than a year to complete, but that doesn’t stop Plan B being put into action…
