s that summer sun continues to shine, Met Éireann have just released their latest weather warning for County Wicklow.
Starting Wednesday 10th, temperatures are expected to hit 30 degrees in Ireland for the first time in August since 2003.
A high pressure area will be mean steadily rising temperatures during the week, with each day progressively hotter than the last, say Met Éireann.
The peak for last month happened on Sunday, July 18th, when temperatures at Dublin’s Phoenix Park hit 33.0Â degrees.
The latest wave of hot weather is expected to extend into next weekend and beyond into the following week. The 30 degree barrier is expected to be broken in inland areas in the southeast of the country.
“If it plays out as predicted at the moment,” says Met Éireann forecaster Brandon Creagh, “the hot weather will be widespread. Most areas will get into the high 20s, even reaching the 30s, particularly in from coastal areas.”
Luckily, we have that cool sea breeze to keep those soaring temperatures in check, but, it goes without saying, there will be those who might just need our help in this hot weather.
So, make sure any elderly neighbours or relatives are finding shade, and drinking plenty of water.
Ditto our beloved dogs. The cats, not so much.
The Coast Guard, Irish Water Safety and the RNLI have urged people to proceed with care and caution when swimming over the coming heatwave.
It’s worth noting too that lakes and rivers can be colder than expected.
Also, if you know someone who’s particularly thick, try and keep tabs on them as those temperatures rise.
If you can, keep them watered and indoors until then.
Update: There’s also a yellow warning for thunderstorms from 3pm on Sunday 14th until 3am on Monday 15th.
