It was a major leap forward for Greystones U11 Green Girls this afternoon, as they took on league leaders Dalkey in their first-ever cup final.
Dalkey were always going to be a tough team to beat, but the Greystones gang came out all goals blazing.
Here’s coach Paul Howard with the match report…
Greystones U11MGL Green Girls played in their very first cup final today, and judging by the performance, it will not be their last.
Despite losing 3 0 to Dalkey, these girls gave everything they had for the green jersey, and were well in the game up to the last 10 minutes, when they started to tire.
Still, they pushed Dalkey all the way, a team that hasn’t been beaten for two years, and are regarded as the best team in in the U 11 age group. Greystones had the better of the play in the 1st half, and Dalkey were lucky to go in at half-time at nil all.
The second half was even for first 15 minutes, and it was then Dalkey who started to exert some pressure, scoring 3 times in the last 10 minutes. Dalkey management congratulated the Greystones girls on a marvellous performance, saying it was the toughest game they had played all season.
Hard to single out any one player on the Greystones team today as from shirt 1 to 10, these girls were outstanding, and the club could not be any prouder of them. Even after the game their attitude was, no tears, we’ll get them next year.
So, congrats to Rebecca, Elsha, Lucy, Sarah, Alice, Lili, Carla, Ally, Milly, Isobel and Elizabeth. You did Greystones proud…
