Just as there are far more Irish living outside of Ireland than inside our shaky borders, there’s every chance that the number of Greystonians who have made a new life for themselves abroad is bigger than the number too smart (or is it dumb?) to leave the nest.
Chances are, if you’re over the age of 20, you’ve got family living abroad, from an uncle who took a labourer’s job in England many moons ago to a sister who has headed for sunnier climes. Bottom line, we feckers certainly get around.
For those of you who survived Aer Lingus and are now living a new life away from your hometown, what do you miss most about Greystones? Especially at a time like Christmas, when it’s all about the family coming together, and meeting up with friends to raise a glass to another year. Covid has reminded us all of that.
Each year, we put these home thoughts from abroad together for a special Christmas post. Oh, and if you have any pictures from your time living here, send those through too. Failing that, one of your big happy head today will certainly suffice.
