Greystones Christmas Shoebox Appeal

This year’s Christmas Shoebox Appeal will get underway at Hillside Evangelical Church from November 12th to the 23rd.

Organised by Team Hope, this annual event has seen truckloads of presents making their way to African kids who would otherwise go without a visit from Santa.

With collection Monday to Friday, from 9.30am to 1pm, if you’re thinking about what to place in your wrapped Christmas present, Team Hope have come up with The 4 Ws, as a guideline.

Something To Write
Pens & pencils, colouring books, crayons, paper, markers, sharpeners & erasers.

Something To Wash With
Soap (wrapped), hairbrush, comb, toothbrush, toothpaste, facecloth.

Something To Wear
Socks, underwear, flip-flops, hat, scarf, gloves.

Something To Wow
Cuddly toy, skipping rope, yo-yo, sweets (in date until at least 3/18), small musical instrument, toy car, sunglasses, stickers, doll.

In the latter Wow category, they also recommend wrapping a photo of yourself. Which, I’m guessing, wouldn’t really be all that much fun for any kid on Christmas morning, no matter what part of the world they lived in.

You can find out more on Greystones’ Christmas Shoebox Appeal Facebook page here, the Team Hope website here, or you can email organiser Brigitte Tyack on shoeboxgreystones@gmail.com.
