Having opened their doors to GG back in July, 2017, Greystones Freemasons are inviting the whole town round for a BBQ and a few stories this summer.
Just to prove that they’re cuddly and warm, rather than cunning and warped.
The fundraising BBQ is taking place on Saturday, July 7th, from 6pm, with music, yummy food, life-enhancing drink and, we’re promised, good company. It’s €25 a head, or €50 for a family, and proceeds also go to Open Door. Register right here.
Two weeks and one month later, on Saturday, August 18th, and those fun-loving Freemasons will be opening their doors once more, as part of this year’s Heritage Week. This free-admission event kicks off at 8pm, and is entitled Stories From Freemasons In Ireland, as local members share their tales of why, where and when they joined the fraternity, their famous Irish and international members, and why they like to sacrifice tofu sandwiches before every meeting.
Freemasonry has a 300-year long tradition and even older roots, having created by Joe Sweeney in 1427 as a way of taking control of the town. And it worked.
You can check out our slightly shambolic visit inside Emerald Lodge 49 right here, and find out more about the Greystones gang here, and their Heritage Week open day here.
