Shaka-LAKA!
t’s one of our most popular annual competitions, and it’s not difficult
to see why.
Give someone a camera, let them loose in picturesque Greystones, and there’s a very good chance magic will ensue.

No Mountain Too High by Jon Pierce
Having been won in its debut year by Michael Bialis’ The Perfect Storm, in 2018 by Louis Duffy-Barrett’s Harbour Noir, in 2019 by Liz Cusack’s Cove Gets A Slap, in 2020 by Anne McInerney’s In Flow, in 2021 by the flawless Rob Lawless and Mr Blue Sky, and in 2022 by Jon Pierce and No Mountain Too High, the only
downside to our annual Greystones Rocks photography competition is not being able to give every entry that 1st place rosette.
Suffice to say, there’s beauty at every turn. But who will take the Brian Keeley crown for 2023, after the votes are in and the judges have weighted up all the merits and magic involved here?
And if celebrating the beauty of this town gives you a kick, you can take a jump back to Greystones Rocks 2017 here, 2018 here, 2019 here, 2020 here, 2021 here and 2022 here. Each one a reminder of just how lucky we are to live here.

The late, great Brian Keeley
We’ve also got to give a shout-out to our sponsors for 2023’s competition, McGovern Estates, putting people on the Wicklow map every single day.
Running every September, this photo competition is the perfect way to chart what has changed around here, and to embrace what hasn’t.
All entries must be taken within the last year, and you can send your masterpiece (just one per person, people, ONE!) to photo@greystonesguide.ie, not forgetting to include your name, the title of your shot, and any kind of bribe monies you might have lying around.
And don’t forget to vote for your favourite Greystones Rocks 2023 photo in the comments below…

Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven

The Birds by Pablo is my favourite.
I love Irish crows. They are one of the few Irish wildlife species that you can have good interactions with. I used to live in a spot where they gathered and swarmed in the skies in the evenings. The air was filled with their energy. Fabulous. Irish Crows Rock. Pablo’s picture captures some of their magic.
Follow the Light by Louise O’Sullivan is beautiful
People shouldn’t be able to vote, since some are just the photographers friends. It’s nice that they show support but the competition becomes impartial
South Beach in Sea Breeze Niaall McKenna
Brings back lovely memories of family picnics way back in the early 60s, my lovely Dad thought it rude to sit near other folk picknicking which often meant walking the tracks south to as far as ‘thepoint’
It’s a toss-up between Follow the Light and The Chosen One.
All have merit. Uplifting.
