Minister for Health has welcomed the news Squirrel’s Scramble is set to reopen next year.

The popular attraction has secured insurance which will allow them to be back in business on March 19th.

However, the cost of their insurance is still too high and needs to be reduced for the owners to be able to secure their long term future.

Minister Donnelly said he will continue to support the speedy introduction of the reforms needed to both reduce the cost of insurance and create the right conditions to attract more competition into the Irish market.

He said: “I’m absolutely delighted Squirrel’s Scramble is going to reopen again.

“Kids and adults everywhere will be thrilled to hear the news.

“It’s a fantastic attraction and a huge asset to not just Killruddery, but to the entire area.

“I would like to thank Minister of State Sean Fleming for agreeing to meet with the owners to listen to their case.

“Protecting small businesses from exorbitant insurance costs and malicious claims is a major issue this Government is taking seriously.

“The reform of the personal injury guidelines is already starting to see a drop in the amounts being awarded plus perjury has now been made a criminal offence.

“In addition, we are looking at reforming the duty of care requirements which will give businesses more protections from signed waivers.

“I know this is something the owners of Squirrel’s Scramble would like to see happen.

“And a reform of the Personal Injury Assessment Board is underway which will see cases being dealt with quicker and at less cost.”
