The Twelve Days Of Christmas Dinner

It’s proving to be a tough year for many people, and for some, the lockdowns, and the uncertainty, can be a little too much to bear.

Thankfully, there are those who are always here to help, and one of the finest around here is The Greystones Family Resource Centre.

Situated down at Burnaby Court (for now), Sarah, Rebecca and the gang have pulled together a list of new initiatives that might just make all the difference.

Take it away, Sarah…

Life-saving, Innovative 24/7 Text Service Launched…

A new text based mental health service funded by the H.S.E. has recently been launched.

50808 is a first of its kind for Ireland, a free 24/7 text service, providing everything from a calming chat to immediate support for people going through a mental health or emotional crisis. Crisis Volunteers are available 24/7 for anonymous text conversations. The aim is to provide immediate support in the short term and connect people to resources that will help them in the future.

For people that need mental health support it’s important to have a variety of services that meet those needs. Picking up the phone and asking for help can appear daunting, but texting 50808 will connect you to a trained listening Crisis Volunteer. Parallel to this important service, the H.S.E., through our Psychosocial Response Project, is aligning the different levels of supports that are available online, by phone and text to improve accessibility to mental health resources for those who might be struggling.

Fantastic New App On ADHD For Families…

The Changing Lives Initiative have launched an innovative app on ADHD to support families. The App helps families understand what ADHD is and provides practical strategies and tools for parents to use with their children. The app is particularly relevant for parents who have concerns about their child’s behaviour but are not yet sure if their child may have ADHD.

The app is also extremely useful for those working with children, in helping them understand ADHD and how they might support children who have issues with inattention, hyperactivity or impulsivity. The App may be of particular support to families during the current Covid-19 situation.

Download the app for free here.

The Changing Lives Initiative is a community based initiative working to create a better understanding of ADHD and providing an intervention programme for families with children aged (3-7) experiencing behaviours consistent with ADHD. The Changing Lives Initiative is supported by the European Union’s INTERREG VA Programme, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
