lready established as something of a summer favourite, despite it being a new kid on the block, the Charlesland Soccer Mini League was in full swing when we, eh, swung down this afternoon.
And sure, how could it not be, given the great big number of future football legends that live there.
Having grown out of a concern from parents in the area about just what there was to do for all their beautiful kids once summer break came around, the Charlesland Soccer Mini League debuted last year. And was, by all accounts, a roarin’ success, as you can see here.
A big part of pulling together this welcome addition to the town was the simple rule that it had to be free. Also, given the huge number of kids in the area, it was decided to make the mini league two-tier, with 5- to 7-year-olds competing non-competitively and the 8- to 12-year-olds going for the gold and the glory.
With that first year signing up 125 children, it was hardly surprising that this year’s week-long event was even bigger, with an extra day having to be added to accommodate the huge demand.
We caught up with some of the fine people behind the Charlesland Soccer Mini League to find out where to from here. More importantly, we wanted to find out if they’d spotted any mini-Messis or pint-sized Bests yet…
