atest press release from Cllr Tom Fortune, issued on Thursday, November 24th 2022…
I have, alongside some local residents, been meeting and talking with Irish Rail for over six years about improvements needed in Kilcoole.
And it’s great to see those improvements being put in place.
1. Upgrading crossing 2. Putting in wheel chair access 3. Putting lighting into car park.
Irish Rail have also helped to keep the breeches from flooding on a number of occasions.
This is great news. To get work of this extent done always takes time. It does not happen with one meeting; it takes years. I have many examples of this during my time as a public rep. At our meetings we continually discussed the work they are now doing – train service and the flooding threat at the Breaches.
At the same time that Irish Rail commenced this work, they announced that more trains will be stopping at Kilcoole. They have also committed to keep the train service under review. We will keep working with them on this.
Irish Rail accept that our community has grown; we now have a population of 4,500 people.
I will continue to communicate and work with Irish Rail to further improve the train service.
