Is The La Touche Actually Looking Good…?

t is, of course, outrageous to even entertain such a thought, but, passing by the La Touche Hotel grounds today, we had to admit…

The place is actually looking pretty damn good.

Sure, the town’s last hotel standing is about to become expensive townhouses and state-of-the-bank-account apartments, but, the place is really beginning to look like a sweet addition to the seafront.

With the O’Gorman sisters looking after those townhouses, we’re still waiting to get word from the developer responsible for the main hotel building’s makeover. Despite the fact that all developers are soulless charlatans who only care about making moolah and flattening cottages, it’s heartening to see that, after all the kicking and screaming, the planning enforcements and dereliction notices (and this week’s permission granted to replace five proposed four-bedroom homes with 10 apartments), emerging out of all that dust is a building that does have the look of the once grand Grand Hotel.

Such praise, of course, is pretty much heresy around here, and we fully expect to have our Historical Greystones badge ripped off our shoulder before the week is out.

We’re just happy to see the old girl beginning to look something like her old self once again…
