t’s fitting that the first day of December should ring out with not one, not two but three fine Christmas markets around here.
We’ll be catching St David’s tomorrow, and should have something on the Greystones Harbour Christmas Market later on, but, this afternoon, we headed up to Delgany for what turned out to be one heck of a show.
Given that it’s where all the classy people hang out, of course.
With both The Old Schoolhouse and the current national school decked out with bows of holly, sparkling wreaths and all things festive, that Christmas feeling hits you pretty strong from the moment you walked in the door.
Hitting The Old Schoolhouse first, the mix of old-fashioned games, homemade arts and crafts and buckets of mince pies and cakes was somewhat intoxicating, but it was the Hollywood-worthy Santa’s Grotto that truly knocked us out.
Then again, the brains behind it all is a set designer on the Vikings TV series.
Heading down to the national school, the stalls got bigger, and so did the treats, with a dress-up photo booth, face painting and bargains galore. Oh, and a caravan of pizzas & hot dogs outside.
Well done to everyone involved. And remember, if you can, hit these markets before you hit the shops, as these are local people with skills and bills. You know it makes cents…
