Kick Off The Jim-Jams

t started out as a quick 5-minute chat about the upcoming all-star Ugandan orphanage fundraiser on Friday, October 27th, but then the conversation drifted.

Which, considering that GG is talking to two happy lovebirds who have been making sweet music – together and, gulp, with other people – for the last 40 years, well, a little jazz improv was perhaps inevitable.

And so it was that we talked of Fiachra’s work as producer, arranger and composer for the likes of Van Morrison, Donal Lunny, The Pogues, Phil Lynott, and Elvis Costello. We talked about how we’ve become a pyjama nation around here, everyone in jim-jams, glass in hand, in front of the TV or computer, once that pesky sun goes down, and how we need to readjust our sets a little, given that, hey, Greystones has just added a world-class theatre to its evening menu of pub gigs and, of course, electric landlady Ailbhe‘s aptly-named Hot Spot. 

We also talked about how these two eejits got together. But, hey, let’s not get soppy here.

Instead, let’s jump straight down into the Trench’s for this, eh, 5-minute chat, as we rekindle some of those sparks that only music can bring, including Fiachra’s three favourite studio sesssions, where talent and technology hit that magical moment where the world just stands still. And listens.
