Young Kate Fogarty has been on the blower to tell us all about her yummy Christmas cakes…

Having put her considerable baking skills to good use when fundraising for Habitat For Humanity, Kate’s cakes proved so popular, the orders just kept on coming long after her daughter returned from her volunteer work in Romania.

And that’s how Babs Buns popped out of the oven, with three eye-popping, tummy-rumbling, head-spinning Christmas cakes now ready to be part of your festive feast this year.

Over to Kate…

I live in Greystones and have been making cakes for all occasions for several years now. Birthdays, christenings, Good Luck, Get Well – you name it, I’ll make, bake & ice it!

A couple of years ago, my daughter was joining the Habitat for Humanity team out in Romania and needed to raise €2,000 in order to go so we made cakes to sell. We charged just enough to cover the ingredients and make a small profit as part of her fundraising efforts, but they proved to be so popular that I was asked to make and sell them again.

So, this Christmas, I decided to create 3 different styles of cakes in two different serving options which will be sold at the very competitive price of €25 for the Size A (serves between 15-20 people) and €35 for Size B (serves approx 35 people). You can choose between a robin, a Christmas pud or a snowman. Each one is made of chocolate biscuit cake/rocky road and not only looks good but taste delicious too!

This year, I’m finding many of my orders are being bought as gifts since people don’t want to be doing too much shopping, preferring to stay away from the crowds, but still want to be giving a thoughtful present (and one that will be used!!). Our cakes come beautifully gift wrapped, with ribbon and tags, etc, so they don’t need any further preparation – you can gift it immediately.
