After 20-plus years of searching, Lakers have secured a long-term lease on a premises in Bray.

The location is perfect; close to bus routes and the dart station. While this is fantastic, this 1970s building needs a lot of upgrading to bring it up to standard and to ensure the future security of Lakers for years to come.

We are halfway to our building fund target, which is a great tribute to our supporters over the years. However, we need a further €1m to complete the renovation work.

As you know, Lakers is a sports and recreational club for adults and children with an intellectual disability in the Wicklow and South Dublin areas. The club was started as a basketball club in 1989 by 3 parents and 10 athletes. We now have over 300 members who have a choice of over 60 activities each week! Basketball is still as popular as ever, but we now have many other sports like, swimming, bowling and tennis.

We also recognised the need for social classes like a men’s club or a book club. While we also help our members learn all about healthy eating through our cookery classes and not to mention the therapeutic values of art or horse riding.

Wicklow is the Garden of Ireland and spring is a time of growth, so we are asking you to support our Grow with Lakers campaign.

All you have to do is text ‘Lakers’ to 50300 for a donation of €2.

We need a lot of people to donate a small amount and to share the word of our fantastic campaign. We would also love it if people planted a seed, a tree, a shrub, to show their support for Lakers.

Also, there will be a Lakers Open Week from Monday 27th to Friday 31st in March, including a coffee morning on the 28th at 10.30am, whilst The Happy Pear twins will draw the winning ticket in the Lakers raffle for a brand new car on Thursday 30th.
