Latest press release from Simon Harris TD, issued on Monday, November 5th 2018…
Wicklow TD Minister Simon Harris has confirmed that Co Wicklow will receive €4,200 in government funding under the Digital Innovation programme for a local project, stating, “Wicklow is set to receive €4,200 in ring-fenced funding for an exciting local project.
“Where in Wicklow is an innovative use of digital technology and infrastructure that will bring real, tangible benefits to our local communities here in Wicklow. The purpose of this project is to facilitate the public with access to existing, emerging and developing digital services being provided by Wicklow County Council via interactive touchscreen technology. It is envisaged to be a focal point for the public to interact with local authority digital services, online supports and access information via the ‘Where in Wicklow’ Interactive Public Information Portal.
“The services referred to include planning applications and information, Census data, location of local facilities, recreational and tourist location and details, development plans and land zoning mapping, etc.The creativity and collaboration that has gone into their design is highly impressive.”
The Digital Innovation Programme, introduced this year by the Department of Rural and Community Development, provides funding for original and innovative local authority led digital projects, allowing them to be piloted before they are scaled up or replicated elsewhere in the country.
Minister Harris continued, “The projects being announced today build on an initial five projects approved under the Digital Innovation Programme in September. The lessons learned from each of these projects will be shared with other local authorities, allowing each initiative to be scaled up or replicated effectively and efficiently.
“I wish Wicklow County Council well with their projects and look forward to celebrating their successes. I hope to announce further approvals under the Digital Innovation Programme in the coming months.”
