Press release from local election candidate Mags Crean, issued on Monday, April 15th 2019…
The Greystones/Kilcoole ward has a new candidate for Wicklow County Council. Mags Crean, a young married mother of two based in Greystones, is running as an Independent, promising “a fresh voice, a fresh pair of eyes, and a fresh way of looking at things”.
Running with a slogan of ‘Who cares? I care’, the Bray native is currently employed as a Researcher at UCD, having completed her PhD in Social Justice there in 2016. She has a background in community development work, is a board member at Greystones Family Resource Centre and the Purple House Cancer Support Centre. She also serves as a voluntary member of Wicklow LCDC, and has experience of being a full time carer, with her late parents.
She says, “I see great potential in Greystones and in Wicklow. It’s a great place to live, a great place to grow up and a great place to raise children. But we’re not taking care of our children by providing enough school places, we’re not taking care of our young families with adequate childcare facilities and supports, and we’re not taking care of our older people in a whole number of ways. I see what we can be in this community, but I also see where we are now, and I think we need to want more, and be honest enough to say that we deserve more.”
“I want to see our children thrive in a happy, well supported community. There’s a saying that if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem. I want to be part of the solution.”
