welcome reminder of just how many selfless little helpers we have around here, today’s meet agus greet for local heroes was the right kind of love-in.
Under the title of LivCom Community & Volunteer Groups Expo, everyone who helps anyone was there on this sunny Sunday.
Organised by the Greystones Town Team in partnership with the local municipal district gang to celebrate Greystones’ winning of the highly prestigious International Liveable Communities award in 2021, the idea was as much for the various community groups and do-gooders to meet one another as for the public to get up close with the personnel.
And perhaps even be inspired to join.
Councillor Mags Crean, one of the organisers, said, “It was lovely to be able to have an in-person event again and see groups networking and people chatting and connecting up. The key take home message for me is that we have amazing community groups in our town and they rely on the goodwill of volunteers – so I would encourage people to get involved, as they will get as much out of it as they put in.”
Young Crean was quick to give a shout-out to Principal Alan Cox for giving over Temple Carrig School as the venue, and the volunteer students for helping out on the day.
In among the likes of Greystones Tidy Towns, Greystones Cancer Support, the Greystones Community First Responders and Triple A Wicklow was perhaps the town’s greatest volunteer of them all, our no.1 roving photographer John McGowan.
Well done to everyone involved. If you have any queries about the day, you can email firstname.lastname@example.org. Full gallery of hi-res pics here.
