atest press release from the SPARC physio gang down at Éire Óg Greystones, issued on Tuesday, August 9th 2022…
SPARC Greystones recently wrapped up their first hugely successful Muscle Matters exercise group in conjunction with Éire Óg Greystones.
This is a huge programme designed to keep our community fit and healthy.
Sarcopenia is a loss of muscle mass and effects all of us as we get older. Muscle matters reverses this process and improves general health and function.
Over 20 participants took part in the class, with a wide range of men and women in their 50s-80s.
The course ran for 8 weeks in total with two classes a week. Participants had measurements taken in week one and in week 8 in terms of strength, functional ability & balance. All participants improved significantly over this time. We used HSE and globally recognized health outcome measurements to track progress through the class
What happens next? Some of our participants are too good for our class after just one block of the programme!! With their new found love of strength exercise, they will progress to Éire Óg Strength and Conditioning group classes with John Lane. Other participants will continue for another block with us. All of our participants have a new found sense of confidence in moving and everyday function. This is backed up by the positive objective strength and balance test results they received.
We have been very lucky to receive support from our local GPs and health services to refer people into the class. All classes are extremely safe and performed under the supervision of our CORU registered healthcare professionals. Where necessary we monitor individuals where there are underlying issues present. This gives our participants the confidence to know they can safely exercise with us. Over the course of the 8 weeks, the groups developed a strong bond and ‘can do’ attitude which will keep them flying fit!
Whether its lifting the grandkids or walking the dog up Bray Head, the class is measured to individuals to ensure they receive a very individualized experience…
But don’t take our word for it, here are some of the testimonies from the class which can be found on our website and also in our google reviews!
Excellent instructors – they make exercising so much fun for people at all levels and ages. Highly recommended especially if (like me!) you are not a “gym person”. Martin
I am so enjoying going to Muscle Matters classes with Alex and his team – who are teaching us the importance of strength and balance exercises and weight lifting that I’d never thought I could do or how beneficial they are. Feel lucky to be part of this group. Marguerite
Having taken part in the Muscle Matters programme , I can highly recommend it to anyone who wishes to improve their strength, flexibility and balance in later years. From Week 1, there was a gradual but very noticeable improvement in all these areas. The programme was very professionally run by Alex and Eamon and each participant could progress at their own pace. It was also very enjoyable as everyone felt we were genuinely benefitting from taking part. Would definitely recommend. 5 Stars. Gerry
Running this group over the past 8 weeks would not have been possible without the support of Eire Og Greystones who provided the wonderful facility for classes to take place and most importantly to the wonderful enthusiastic participants of Muscle Matters!!
The good news is, we are currently enrolling for our autumn block! All are welcome. To sign up please clickhere.
