t was about three minutes in to our chat with suited and booted Delgany historian Seamus Clear this afternoon that we realised we were having two entirely different conversations.
The plan was to talk about the film shoots and famous faces who had graced the village down through the decades, but Seamus decided, without warning, to dig deep into the La Touche family history.
Six feet deep.
So, bear with us, as GG whacks the tennis ball to Shay, and our boy immediately tries to knock it out of the park.
Mind you, it’s been a while since our last ramble chat – April, in fact – and we’re both a little battle-weary and baked from a long, difficult and disorientating summer.
Is it just us, or are our townfolk passing away far too often these days? We’ve had five notable deathsover the past fortnight alone.
The Blue Max
Still, we’re not here to dwell on such sad tidings. Hollywood is the name of the game today, with everyone from Sean Connery to Julian Lennon having made Delgany their hideaway of choice, and cameras rolling here for the likes of The Blue Max, Moone Boy, Black Beauty, Sinful Davey, and a host of other not-very-good celluloid outings.
Oh, and did we mention that Peter La Touche and his family are too? Sé told us to remind everyone about that. Just in case they didn’tknow already.
You can find a fairly full list of local productions to hit our neck of the Wicklow woods right about here. In the meantime, we go take Shay up the rectory…
