One of the great joys of working at GG HQ – beyond spreading the Greystones love, of course – is the fact that, right outside our window, pretty much every single day, a certain group of kids go about their daily adventures.
This usually involves penalty shoot-outs, tall tales, chocolates, a few dares, a few fallouts and subsequent peace deals, a few falls and subsequent parental hugs, and Tayto.
Over the coming months, we’ll be featuring all of these kids on My Greystones – we wouldn’t want any of them to feel left out, or worse, superior to their mates – but, first out of the gate are best friends Liam and Liam.
Beyond having the same name, these two buddies also share a love of Manchester United, video games, piggyback bicycle rides and, yep, the street where they live.
It hardly needs to be said to anyone over the age of 15, but there’s something beyond compare about those childhood years, when the world is endless, and your particular corner of it a jungle for the imagination.
That Liam and Liam, and all their buddies, can play for hours on end, day after day, on that same strip of tarmac says as much about the incredible inner world of a child as it does the rather sweet corner of the outer world they just happen to be growing up in.
Not that kids just starting out in life are going be all that tribal about the town that they live in – it’s plain that Liam & Liam & co are happy with their lot.
And they have a lot to be happy about, of course. Even if all they really need in life is a football. And a treat.
The magic of this wonderful world is very much alive in these kids. They could teach us all a thing or two…
Oh, and we caught up with the other Kindlestown kids, to see what they thought of Liam & Liam’s moment in the sun, and what they love about Greystones. Shops, mainly…
