My Greystones: Sinead O’Carroll

You know when artists – or, more specifically, successful artists – start looking for somewhere to truly live, they’re really only going to settle for somewhere special.

Think of the likes of Ronnie Drew, Bernard Farrell, Johnny McEvoy and Kevin Godley from 10cc. 

The whole world is pretty much their oyster, and they decided that the true pearl was right here – a little slice of heaven sandwiched between the big city and the wilds of Wicklow.

So, it shouldn’t have been all that much of a surprise when chart-topping B*Witched singer Sinead O’Carroll moved to Greystones ten years ago. Sure, the girl had been on a rollercoaster tour all around the world, saw all that it had to offer, and decided to draw a heart in the sand on our South Beach.

The heart would have been for Michael Rahman, the boy Sinead managed to entice into her Greystones tree house, the 10-years-married couple now parents to a 6-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl.

And the good life out in Greystones seems to suit Sinead, not only inspiring the singer/songwriter, musician, dancer and actress to start up her Star Academy for children and even dabble at acting with a turn in Fair City but also sparking a reunion in 2012 of B*Witched, ten years after they went their separate ways. Just back from a short tour of Australia alongside Atomic Kitten, S Club 3, East 17 and Liberty X, the girls will be back out on the road again later this year.

I reckon we might even be able to tempt Sinead to strut her stuff at The Whale sometime. Ce serait magique…
