It’s been three weeks since we caught up with The King, the bould Alan having been missing in action since our Relish review on January 16th.
To cut a long story short, the man went AWOL with a three-day lost weekend in Cork, followed by a week or two of, well, having a much-needed lie down.
With his hair freshly rebooted and polished yesterday, and looking dapper in pink shirt, blue jeans and his jacket collar turned up – of course – the man is in fine fettle today, rarin’ to have a go at another free lunch.
Given that it’s hidden down just beyond library, it’s easy to forget to that Café Gourmet is there, the little Greystones eaterie formerly known as Homan’s being just the kind of hideaway people think of when seeking out a quiet lunch away from the hustle and bustle of main street.
So, perfect for affairs, then.
Having eaten already with our beloved back at GG HQ, we opted for a fancy macaroon treat and a cappuccino. Alan, on the other hand, had the hunger on him, and went for the gourmet club sandwich – mainly because it boasted both bacon and chicken, two of his favourite ingredients. The man has also switched from cappuccinos to Americanos, because, well, “they sound more American“.
So, one sweet catch-up and one major wolfing later, the question, as always, is – was this lunch truly fit for The King…?
